Strongarm's Ruby Red Ale - does exactly what it says on the tin. Posted by Hello

Crayons, as everyone knows, does not need an apostophe for the plural. 'Comic's' needs an apostrophe for the plural because some people make a slight pause between the last c and the s. The rules of grammar are so hard! Posted by Hello

Good game!

Yahoo! Chess, 03.04.2005

1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 4.Bd3 g6? I don't know why I played that. I normally exchange. 5.Nf3 Nd7 6.Nh4 [ 6.Bxf5 gxf5 7.e6 fxe6 8.Ng5 causes confusion.] 6...Bxd3 7.Qxd3 Nb6 The ...g6 move was totally useless. The bishop is needed to support the ...c5 advance. 8.0-0 e6 9.Nf3 c5 10.c3 c4 Wat a relief! 11.Qd1 Ne7 12.Bg5 Qc7 13.Bf6 Rg8 Black obviously has some serious problems, so I decided to castle no matter what. 14.Na3 0-0-0 [ 14...Nf5 is probably better.] 15.Nb5 Qb8 16.Nd6+ [ 16.Ng5 Threatens Nxf7 - which cannot be prevented, and both knights are aiming at d6. Then the first exchange sacrifice would not have been possible.] 16...Rxd6 Obviously. 17.exd6 Qxd6 18.Be5 Qd7 19.Ng5 Nc6 20.Nxh7 I was rather pleased at that - opening the h-file. 20...Be7 21.Bf6 Kb8 22.Bg5 Bd6? [ 22...Rh8 was probably better.] 23.Nf6 Qc8 24.Nxg8 Qxg8 25.f4 Qg7 26.Qg4 I realised about now that I was winning - white has nothing to do. The first thing was to sop q-side pawn breaks, the get a knight to e4. 26...Nd7 27.b3 Na5 28.b4? He fell for it. 28...Nc6 29.a4 Nf8 There is no hurry. 30.a5 Nh7 31.Bh4 Ka8 32.b5 This ends the pawns' journey; whichever pawn advances black sidesteps the capture and the pawns are stymied. 32...Nb8 33.Bg3 Nd7 34.Rfb1 Nhf6 35.Qd1 Ne4 36.Qc2 I think white has guessed that he is in trouble. 36...Ndf6 37.Qb2 Qh7 38.b6 a6 There we are! 39.Re1 White is running out of moves. 39...Qh6 40.Rf1 Nxg3 41.hxg3 Ng4 42.Rf2 Qh2+ 43.Kf1 Qxg3 44.Re2 Qxf4+ 45.Ke1 Be7 The final piece has to take part. 46.Qc2 Bh4+ 47.g3 Bxg3+ 48.Kd1 Qf1+ 49.Kd2 Bf4+ 50.Re3 Bxe3# 0-1

Poor Blinky

Blinky died today. Or perhaps yesterday. He had been having severe flotation problems. A week ago I put him in isolation in shallow water and fed him on skinless peas. That seemed to work for a while. But today he was dead. It is a great shame.

John McEntee in the Hanover Posted by Hello

There is a massive difference between the Baptist Church on the left and the 60s-type building on the right. Posted by Hello

This fine old building right next to the Dominion on Tottenham Court Road is totally decrepit. The windows are open and God knows how many pigeons have made homes in there. There is some clearly old scaffolding on the outside but no work is in progress. Posted by Hello

What is this huge building, No 1 Buckingham Palace Rd? There is no brass plate on the outside to say who works there. The front entrance seems permanently closed. Posted by Hello

Is there any reason - in this technological age - for a really crappy hand-written - and coloured-in - sign like this? Is there no one in the Holiday Hypermarket who knows how to use a computer? Don't they have one? Posted by Hello

"It was impossible for us to find out the correct spelling - so we just had a guess." Posted by Hello

There has been some attempt at erasing the apostrophe out of 'bird's', but it hasn't quite come off - and the gap remains anyway. These signs are in Merton Park, near Collier's Wood. Posted by Hello
